“A chance to Every Opinion”
Debating is a difficult activity. As a community, when we are on the opposite sides of a disputed issue and when the swords are crossed “too sharply”, we either prefer to keep silent not to get involved in a bitter conflict or start a quarrel resulting in inevitable fall-out among friends or beloved ones. However, most of us always argue that the clash of ideas lead to stronger syntheses. Then why what we argue and do (quarrel) are not consistent with each other.
Debate’s raison d'être is very relevant to above mentioned problem. Debate allows students to debate with each other without any reservation or violence in the libertarian environment of the University. No fight occurs as the ideas are in conflict, not us. We look for our theses, find them but once uttered they become independent ideas. Slogans, demagogy and tour de force are not credited in debate. No elaborated idea can claim a victory. Nothing is taken for granted, regarded as true because someone else said it. Every opinion is given equal chance. Therefore, your side is not important. This enables us to scrutinize the shortcomings of the ideas we defend while we try to find the plausible aspects of the idea we are against. Hence, a breakaway from the most undesirable sicknesses of the human being: prejudice. We all welcome you give chance to every opinion.

We always say:
We must ensure that we provide our youth, in whom our future is vested, with the necessary tools and expertise. Accordingly, we hand over such a task to student clubs to a certain extent at our university. They come together, draft their projects and we share our opinions and advice.
In this regard, Yeditepe University Debating Club, one of the most active clubs at our university, takes part in debating tournaments all over Turkey and even the world. We always praise their efforts and successes achieved with efficient team work. Therefore, we are pleased to see them carry through another worthwhile occasion and wish you best successes and fun in this tournament.

Social, cultural, arts and sports activities are as important as education for a university student to fully improve his/her skills. Therefore, student clubs play a significant role for such a socialization process. To this end, as the Student’s Dean of the university, I always try to help them with their club activities. More than 30 student clubs, ranging from photograph to international relations, philosophy to poetry, are a sign of it. Among them, Yeditepe Debating Club is the apple of our eyes as they are very hard working, deserving to be called the most active student club at our university.
This time, too, they have worked around the clock to do a nice job. In addition to the tournament, I hope you will enjoy the original campus of our university and indulge in the beauties of the Istanbul city. Welcome.
